Hull Truck Theatre have announced a fantastic lineup for January 2024.
Animal Farm promises thoughtful and engrossing theatre, brace yourself for laughter and sing-alongs with Little Shop of Horrors, while Song for Ella Grey delivers a moving and captivating experience. Plus, there’s a modern musical twist with Oh What a Lovely War. John Godber, the Hull Truck Theatre legend, is also bringing back the classics with the first play he ever wrote: Happy Jack. It’s a lineup you won’t want to miss.
Emerging from a lively and festive December, Hull Truck Theatre is ushering in January with flair. The month boasts a dazzling array of musical extravaganzas, cinematic delights, and live theatrical performances. Not to be forgotten are the children’s theatre offerings and workshops, beckoning those eager to explore new horizons in 2024. It’s a theatrical rendezvous that promises to kickstart the year in style.

The New Year celebrations at Hull Truck Theatre welcome back a host of musical shows, all offering a fabulous evening of well-known and celebrated classics. Oh! What A Night (Friday 12 – Saturday 13 January), taking audiences back in time on a musical journey through the incredible career of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Featuring songs such as ‘Sherry’, ‘Let’s Hang On’, ‘Big Girl’s Don’t Cry’, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ and more!
The Time of our Lives (Saturday 20 January) invites you to grab the popcorn and sing along to some of the 80’s classic soundtracks. From Dirty Dancing to Top Gun, all the hits are here from your favourite 80s blockbuster movies. It promises to be a memorable evening of nostalgia.
There’ll be an evening of music and song from one of the greatest composers of the 20th Century with Broadway to Hollywood: The Cole Porter Songbook (Saturday 27 January). Here, BBC Proms regular, vocalist Matt Ford, alongside a trio of world-class musicians will take you on an intimate musical journey of Cole Porter.
Snowmen (Friday 5 – Saturday 6 January), will bring fun and games in a playful show for young children over the school holidays. Presented by The Herd Theatre, the story of two snowmen on a mission not to melt will be the perfect winter treat for children and their families as the festive season comes to a close. A joyful new show about friendship, home and hope, with a flurry of fun for the very young. Designed for children aged 2 – 7.

Once again, Hull Truck Screen will be hosting some of the best art and independent cinema around. The Godber Studio hosts a state-of-the-art screen and sound system streaming live broadcasts in partnership this January with National Theatre Live and Hull Independent Cinema.
Hull Independent Cinema presents The Eternal Daughter (12A) on Wednesday 17 January. They’ll also present Tish (15) (Friday 19 January) about social documentary photographer and trailblazer Tish Murtha who dedicated her life to documenting the north-east working-class communities of the 1970s and 1980s in which she lived. The film will be followed by a live Q&A with narrator and Tish’s daughter Ella Murtha and producer Jen Corcoran.
NT Live: Dear England (Thursday 25 January) is filmed live on stage at the National Theatre and directed by Rupert Goold (Judy). Starring Joseph Fiennes as Gareth Southgate. With the worst track record for penalties in the world, he knows he needs to open his mind and face up to the years of hurt, to take team and country back to the promised land.
Introduction to Stand-up Comedy with Kevin Precious (Wednesday 31 January) is a chance to try your hand at stand-up comedy or simply an opportunity to boost your presentation skills, improve the business of public speaking or add a comedic aspect to your writing. This 7-week course is designed to be a comprehensive introduction to writing and performing stand-up comedy and culminates with each participant getting the opportunity to perform their first gig. Participants will develop methods and techniques for generating self-authored comedy material; combined with the ability to deliver the material in front of a live audience.
